Elementary Program

K5 utilizes reading sources with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Journeys curriculum.   Our kindergarten students begin instruction in phonics and math with Saxon curriculum.  Students are introduced to the Accelerated Reader program in K4 and K5.   Smart boards are used daily to incorporate outside research and activities into their lessons.  Students are also exposed to music and art activities in the classroom.

Thomas Jefferson Academy places an emphasis on building self-awareness and self-confidence to establish a solid foundation for growth.  Our elementary school students, grades first through fifth, focus on reading, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Journey curriculum is continued throughout elementary school and students are encouraged to read independently through our Accelerated Reader program.  We provide further instruction through Saxon phonics and math to instill a solid foundation for middle and high school.

Our elementary students begin the day with prayer to instill a foundation of faith and provide a safe, Christian environment.   They also participate daily in physical education which provides physical exercise, an important part in the development of a healthy lifestyle.  In addition to P.E. they also have art, music and STEAM (science, technology, engineering and math) class once a week. We pride ourselves in providing a family like atmosphere for our students through small classroom settings.  It is our goal that our students use the strong foundation of learning to build upon their future educational experience.

Middle and High School Program

Our middle school and high school academic program is comprehensive, college preparatory, and taught within a Christian framework designed to prepare students for the academic demands of college and beyond.  We offer college preparatory, Honors, and Advanced Placement courses.  Thomas Jefferson Academy is known for its small-school environment.  This allows our teachers to spend more time with the students and ensures that all learners’ needs are met.  In middle school, we challenge students by providing vigorous academic coursework to prepare them for high school and make their transition as smooth as possible.  High school credits are earned in eighth grade as well.  The high school curriculum is designed to prepare our students for the academic demands of college and beyond.  We currently have 100% college placement for our graduates and 94% of them will receive the HOPE scholarship.  Our students may also participate in Dual Enrollment or Move on When Ready (MOWR) classes through a partnership with area colleges.  This program allows them to earn college credit while still attending high school.  We currently have 66% of our junior and senior classes enrolled in MOWR.   Our students consistently score above national average on the SAT and ACT.
